It's been 2009 since I posted here at Speedyhunter blog. Website has been updated several times since then. The biggest change was the new format from a template I found and liked for its simplicity. It is easy to change for various pages I want to create.

Today, the main page has a list of online guides and tutorials for those who seek them for purchase. I tried to find those with shippable media if you prefer to have a hard copy or CD in hand when you buy a product online. It takes hours of searching, copying code and then sorting out selections into tables or individual pages. If you were to try and find these things via Google search, you'd come up with so many choices, many not relevant to your needs. I also selected guides that made the most sense and that did not make too many over the top claims. I prefer a "woo-free" page if you're tired of those silly pitches for over-priced products and services.

I hope I have selected guides that you find useful whatever your interest, whether for business promotion or personal enjoyment. The main concept of Speedyhunter is to reduce online shopping time with concise, simple pages featuring collections of products in varying formats. If you prefer browsing a huge list of all products a merchant offers, you can select the "Product Catalogs" column links. The "Direct Links" column has catchy phrases that point to specific products. "Store Alerts", my newest column, is collection of links and images for each merchant or merchant type. The "Other Links" column features other link pages and business-related resources.

With the increased use of mobile and personal computing devices, the best types of pages are those that do not rely on scripts and are simple text lists, which download much faster. Keyword field pages make it a lot easier to find what you want when typing is not as easy as clicking.

Take a look at the new AllMenus.com restaurant guide which follows a similar format. The site is not too cluttered with ad buttons or "rich media" content.

The general format guide I follow is to use text first and images next only if it helps enhance look of page or draw viewer to the merchant. On the "Gift Search" page, the image is representative of the type of gift (computer, clothing, home, etc.) being listed. Some images function simply as merchant entry points, but it never seems to work to have too many different merchant buttons on one page.

My older "Easy Street Mall" used to have standard 480x60 banners as "storefronts", but it worked better to use text links, so I changed to that format. I also changed the main page so that all store categories could be accessed from the main page. My original format was a ring that connected all store types (clothing, housewares, sports, games). I moved the title (which normally goes at the top) to the middle of the table and put items that usually go at the bottom in the other table squares. I have been experimenting with different web page format arrangements over the past 10 years since I started creating web pages, sometimes trying to "break the mold" from more "conventional" designs. It's still hosted on my older Freeservers account, which I upgraded to paid a year or so ago.

There is a lot one can do with "plain" HTML and English text. It helps to add a few scripts to enable link color changes for mouseover events and other text special effects.
There may be a few Javascripts used to perform special tasks, such as email sends or web forms. Most of my content, however is based upon the standard HTML coding set.
